GOLF INJURIES: PREVENTION AND TREATMENT




Many golf injuries occur due to improper grip and swing mechanics or a lack of fitness and flexibility. These injuries typically occur in the soft tissues (muscles, ligaments, tendons) and joints of the upper body (back, shoulder, elbow and wrist).

Causes of golf injuries:
1. Overuse.
2. Miss hits or duffs.
3. Poor swing or over swing mechanics.
4. Skipping the warm up.
5. Twisting the spine during the swing.
6. Incorrect golf club grip.

Recomendations:
TAKE A LESSON WITH A PRO AND REFINE YOUR SWING SO IT IS FLUID.

Lower back injuries
You can reduce stress in your lumbar spine and prevent injuries by:
1. Rotating the shoulder and hip about the same amount during the backswing.
2. Keeping the spine vertical (pendular to the ground) during the follow through, avoiding hiperextension of the spine.

Shoulder injuries:
These injuries in golfers are generaly due to the repetitive overuse syndromes of the rotator cuff muscles. To reduce shoulder pain and injuries:
1. Shorten the backswing slightly.
2. Strenghtrn the rotator cuff and scapular muscles.
3. Strenghten chest and bavk muscles to increase power.

Conclusion.

To prevent golf injuries:
1. Get adequate rest.
2. Listen to you body.
3. Practice visualization
4. Do core conditioning exercises.
5. Get a proper warm up.
